The management team of Energy Support Services is composed of industry experts experienced in the details of Operations and Maintenance (O&M), and Asset Management for Commercial, Industrial, and small-utility scale solar systems. Our leaders help clients, from the largest and most sophisticated independent power producers to smaller boutique solar investors, protect their investment and achieve their projected financial returns. The ESS team approaches every project with their guiding principles of safety, integrity, and quality. We take pride in building lasting relationships with utilities, equipment manufacturers, site owners and their neighbors, authorities having jurisdiction, and developers to achieve the common goal, operating and maintaining the solar power plant as expected.

Matt Hankey is the Co-Founder, President & CEO of New Energy Equity, LLC. Under Matt’s leadership, New Energy Equity has installed more than 250 renewable energy installations in 13 different states, totaling more than $500,000,000 in total transactional value and was ranked by Solar Power World in 2019 as the 36th largest solar company in the United States and has been ranked as one of Inc. Magazine’s Fastest-Growing Companies in both 2019 and 2020. Before he co-founded New Energy Equity, Matt held senior management positions with two Mid-Atlantic renewable energy companies where he was responsible for the management of the development and implementation of renewable energy projects within each company’s footprint. Prior to entering the renewable energy industry in 2010, Matt worked in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate finance with M&T Investment Banking Group in Baltimore, MD where he assisted in the execution of multiple corporate finance transactions totaling over $430 million in enterprise value. He received his B.S. in Finance, Magna Cum Laude, from Ohio State University.

Ahmar Zaman serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Energy Support Services (ESS). In addition, Ahmar serves as CFO of New Energy Equity and all of its subsidiaries. Ahmar has been involved in the solar industry for more than 15 years and brings valuable insight having experienced the entirety of the industry’s evolution, and through various cycles.

As CFO, Ahmar is responsible for managing and supervising finance and accounting operations for ESS. This includes managing the production of financials and annual budget/forecast, as well as reviewing pricing and modeling assumptions for business development opportunities. His other activities include working closely with the General Manager of ESS to drive growth and enter new markets.

Prior to serving with NEE and ESS, Ahmar served as CFO of one of the largest US PV/Storage O&M service firms which he helped grow from a single vertical to covering four industry verticals while tripling assets under management. His career began at UBS Investment Bank as an equity research analyst, one of only three covering the Solar industry at the time. As Chief Financial Officer, Ahmar is responsible for supporting rapid growth by managing the internal and external financial functions of New Energy Equity and its subsidiaries. He received his B.S. in Finance, from Arizona State University and his MBA from Babson College.

Conrad Gross joined Energy Support Services at the beginning of 2019 and currently manages both the Energy Support team’s day-to-day operations and our partner relationships. Conrad has been working in the solar O&M industry for the past 10 years. His professional experience began at Standard Solar where, as O&M coordinator, he handled monitoring, dispatch, reporting, billing, and customer management for the Vigilant Energy Management services team. After helping to establish Vigilant as a profitable venture, he joined WGL Energy Systems as Commercial Project Asset Manager. At WGL, Conrad was a sole asset manager for nearly 200MW of C&I solar projects, responsible for both financial and performance reporting, customer & landowner relationships, and managing multiple O&M service providers. He received both a B.A. in Digital Media and a B.A. in History from Eastern Mennonite University.

Marquis Matthews

Vice President of Operations

Marquis Matthews joined Energy Support Services in late 2020 as the Operations Manager; in this role he oversees all of our field operations, including both our team of local technicians and the various subcontractors with whom they interface. He has a decade plus of solar industry experience, and has had roles as an installer, team lead, trainer, and a small business entrepreneur wherein he ran his own solar company in the Maryland area. Previously, Marquis worked as a deep-sea welder in the oil & gas industry after having served for five years in the Navy. With his extensive industrial and naval experiences, Marquis brings valuable safety expertise to the ESS team as well.
