The management team of Energy Support Services is composed of industry experts experienced in the details of Operations and Maintenance (O&M), and Asset Management for Commercial, Industrial, and small-utility scale solar systems. Our leaders help clients, from the largest and most sophisticated independent power producers to smaller boutique solar investors, protect their investment and achieve their projected financial returns. The ESS team approaches every project with their guiding principles of safety, integrity, and quality. We take pride in building lasting relationships with utilities, equipment manufacturers, site owners and their neighbors, authorities having jurisdiction, and developers to achieve the common goal, operating and maintaining the solar power plant as expected.
Dean Anderson joined Energy Support Services as President in 2020. Dean has an extensive background in the energy industry in both the natural gas and renewable sectors. Following earlier roles with Peoples Energy in Chicago, and Dominion Resources in Richmond, VA, he has more recently focused on utility scale and C&I space solar O&M projects – initially with First Solar in Tempe AZ, and more recently with Borrego Solar in Boston. Dean will be based out of the NEE’s Management Headquarters in Annapolis MD.
Director of Operations
Conrad Gross joined Energy Support Services at the beginning of 2019 and currently manages both the Energy Support team’s day-to-day operations and our partner relationships. Conrad has been working in the solar O&M industry for the past 10 years. His professional experience began at Standard Solar where, as O&M coordinator, he handled monitoring, dispatch, reporting, billing, and customer management for the Vigilant Energy Management services team. After helping to establish Vigilant as a profitable venture, he joined WGL Energy Systems as Commercial Project Asset Manager. At WGL, Conrad was a sole asset manager for nearly 200MW of C&I solar projects, responsible for both financial and performance reporting, customer & landowner relationships, and managing multiple O&M service providers. He received both a B.A. in Digital Media and a B.A. in History from Eastern Mennonite University.
Marquis Matthews joined Energy Support Services in late 2020 as the Operations Manager; in this role he oversees all of our field operations, including both our team of local technicians and the various subcontractors with whom they interface. He has a decade plus of solar industry experience, and has had roles as an installer, team lead, trainer, and a small business entrepreneur wherein he ran his own solar company in the Maryland area. Previously, Marquis worked as a deep-sea welder in the oil & gas industry after having served for five years in the Navy. With his extensive industrial and naval experiences, Marquis brings valuable safety expertise to the ESS team as well.
Manager of Business Development
Adrian Hinojos leads business development for Energy Support Services and has 16 years of experience in renewable energy, finance, and management. Prior to joining the company in May of 2021, Adrian founded OlaSolar Energy, where he focused on project development for community solar projects in New York, residential sales in Connecticut, and consulting for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects in Mexico. Adrian’s experience also includes roles in corporate finance, strategic planning, and M&A at EXSIF Worldwide, Kansas City Southern, and Genesee & Wyoming railroads. Adrian received his B.S. in Economics and an M.Sc. in Finance from the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico.

Gautam Chandra joined the New Energy Equity Board in 2019 and is currently a founder of SmartPitch Ventures. Gautam was the Senior Vice president at WGL Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: WGL), a Fortune 1000 diversified energy company, where he was responsible for managing all competitive businesses as well as the overall strategy for WGL. Prior to that, he was the Founder and CEO of SmartEnergy, Inc. In addition, he was a strategy consultant with Deloitte & Touche LLP and Sapient Corporation. He has been a principal deal maker in dozens of transactions with a total enterprise value of close to $10 billion. Gautam obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Business Administration from Cornell University.

Matt Hankey is the Co-Founder, President & CEO of New Energy Equity, LLC. Under Matt’s leadership, New Energy Equity has installed more than 250 renewable energy installations in 13 different states, totaling more than $500,000,000 in total transactional value and was ranked by Solar Power World in 2019 as the 36th largest solar company in the United States and has been ranked as one of Inc. Magazine’s Fastest-Growing Companies in both 2019 and 2020. Before he co-founded New Energy Equity, Matt held senior management positions with two Mid-Atlantic renewable energy companies where he was responsible for the management of the development and implementation of renewable energy projects within each company’s footprint. Prior to entering the renewable energy industry in 2010, Matt worked in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate finance with M&T Investment Banking Group in Baltimore, MD where he assisted in the execution of multiple corporate finance transactions totaling over $430 million in enterprise value. He received his B.S. in Finance, Magna Cum Laude, from Ohio State University.
Maneera (“Mona”) Tandon
Mona Tandon joined the Board of Directors as an Independent Director in 2020. She has been involved in the energy industry for nearly twenty years, and currently is a Partner at the law firm Van Ness Feldman. Her practice focuses on oil and product pipelines, natural gas, and electric utility regulation. This encompasses all aspects of project development and acquisitions, project siting and permitting, environmental concerns, contract negotiations and transactional issues, tariffs, ratemaking and regulatory rate litigation. Mona also advises clients on general corporate matters and legislative issues, including corporate governance, infrastructure security, and risk management. Prior to returning to Van Ness Feldman, where she practiced for the first 10 years of her career, Mona served as Senior Legal Counsel to TransCanada.
Sanjiv has been a member of the New Energy Equity Board since 2019 and is a co-founder of SmartPitch Ventures. He was the President of WGL Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of WGL Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: WGL), a Fortune 1000 diversified energy company. Prior to that, he worked as the Director of IT Operations at Nextel Corporation. In addition, he was a Founding Partner at mindSHIFT Technologies and a Manager at MCI Corporation. At WGL Energy, he built a $1 billion renewable energy business over a period of 8 years. Sanjiv obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering from Howard University and a Masters in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary.
Mr. Powell has experience in real estate, engineering, manufacturing, finance, and insurance operations. He served as the Senior VP of Operations of Copart, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPRT) from 2001 – 2006 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the following companies; Enginuity Power Systems, Industrial Heat, Pinnacle Financial Group and New Energy Equity and runs the day-to-day operations of Powell Associates.
